Ok, maybe not because you are poor, per se, but NPR has a fascinating new article up recently about how evolutionary biologists have determined that people are more likely to pig out – i.e., gain weight – over time during two major periods: recessions, and winter time.   It makes sense when you think about it (and you can read more about it here on NPR’s website), but basically, it all comes down to scarcity. When food and other resources are scarcer, or at the very least when they are perceived to be scarcer, they come up more likely that you will use them to ensure that you survive.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, believe it or not, but don’t worry, fellas! If you’ve got a girlfriend (and if she’s anything like me!), chances are she wants two things for the special day: a set of nice, beautiful roses, and something tasty to eat. Well… what if I told you that there was a way that you could give her both of those things at once? And no, I’m not talking about having her eat the roses, silly…   I’m of course talking about a BACON BOUQUET! That’s right – a bouquet of what looks like roses, but instead of being actual flowers and plants, well, it’s bacon! What’s not to love about that?
I have a confession to make: I'm a closet nerd. I know, I know. I'm pretty proud of it, too! Part of my nerd-dom involves playing Magic: The Gathering with my friends. I learned how to play about a year ago and I definitely picked up on it pretty quickly.   It's a lot of fun, and for people who have never done it before you can really get into it and go through the game really intensely!   For those of you who aren't familiar, the game was created in the early 1990s, and today boasts millions of players around the world. You can play it two at a time, or with a bigger group, and it uses a deck of cards that represents a battle between wizards that the game calls "planeswalkers."
[caption id="attachment_2206" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Photo from funnybunnytoes on flicker"][/caption]   Check it out! This car was recently spotted in Chicago, and WHAT?! It's a pink pig car! Oh no. This is just too perfect, and I want to know who the owner of the car is, and how I can get one just like it!   I know the original photo was taken way back in 2006, but you know that with a car like that, somebody is still pretty darn proud of their pigs, just like me. The VW Bug has some pretty serious modifications, too; the piggy ears and nose aren't just decorations, but it almost looks like they are welded on the car.
[caption id="attachment_2172" align="aligncenter" width="364" caption="Picture from http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SuperHero"][/caption]   So my theory is that growing up, we all wanted to be superheroes. You know the ones - Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman. I think that every kid growing up thought about that one special super power that they would like to have, and then started idolizing one or two superheroes who they really could relate to or dreamed of one day becoming.   Of course you KNOW my favorite superheroes had to do with pigs :) I was a fan of Super Pig - or, the better-known Japanese version Tonde Boorin. When I was a kid, I would watch everything I could get my hands on that involved either Super Pig, or his lesser-known superhero buddy, Spider-Ham. Superheroes and pigs all in one? Sign me up!
There's a lot of stuff going on this October, including our one-year anniversary a couple weeks ago. I turn around, and BAM! Halloween!   This is one of my favorite holidays, and for good reason. It's the perfect day of the year to accessorize with porkin' great ideas and costumes - and I would know!   Last year, I went to Halloween as a Ninja Pig. Yeah, that's right, a ninja pig! Now you see me... now you don't! You know I had to deck out my costume with curly pigtails, and of course a bright pink pig nose. Because every good pig ninja dresses in all black to hide while its stalking people, only to rock the bright pink pig nose, too! ;)

What do you get when you combine office supplies and boredom? For one person, you get pig erasers! For some reason, the eraser got me thinking about the new year and the joys that it will bring. It's a little reminder not to erase the...

I'm a huge fan of Stephan Pastis, the creator of the Pearls Before Swine comic strip. Here's a strip of Pig using his blogger status as an icebreaker. Suave he is not, but that's what makes the comic so clever. You'll be seeing a lot...
