Four Positive Porkers to AdmireWritten by Lillian Tram on November 25th, 2013
Of course, this precious pig should be at the top of our list. She’s beautiful, glamorous, popular, world-wise and knows exactly what she wants in life. She is a prima-donna who oozes grace, charm, and beauty… and we never see her with hardly a hair out of place. She also reeks of talent: singing, dancing, acting, speaking French, and even knows karate! What we love about her most is that she isn’t afraid to follow her heart even if it means breaking the rules… falling in love with a little green frog for example. If the love of her life steps out of line, she has the spunk and character to let him know it too!
Slightly less well known than Miss Piggy, Pumbaa’s carefree attitude has helped him march right into our hearts. In fact, his name actually means ‘careless.’ Most of us will recognize him as the warthog on the Lion King. Pumbaa is one of Disney’s creations, admired for his hilarious antics and musical talents. Adults and children love to sing Pumbaa’s favorite song, “Hakuna Matata” and even though he doesn’t like being referred to as a pig, he deserves a special place on our list.
While many of you may not remember her, she is the optimistic character standing in for the letter P in the alphabet series called Sweet Pickles. Sweet Pickles books were extremely popular, selling over fifty million copies. Introduced in 1977 and authored by Richard Heffer, Positive Pig had a special gift. She always looked for the good in every situation, believing that no matter what happens in life, it’s bound to be for the best. What a great outlook on life!
It just wouldn’t be possible to compose a list of special pigs without mentioning darling little Wilbur, whose life was spared with the help of a spider named Charlotte. Wilbur made his debut in the story, Charlotte’s Web, by E.B. White. Wilbur becomes an amazing pig thanks to the wisdom and selflessness of his special friend and while his heart is broken, he finds a way to enjoy the world around himself. He also meets some new friends and learns that even in the darkest of time, there is a positive outlook to embrace.
It is extremely important to always keep a positive outlook on life but sometimes this is a difficult task. These fictional characters offer valuable life lessons that should be embraced and remembered. Can you think of any other positive characters, fictional or otherwise?
