‘The Pig That Therefore I Am Exhibit’Written by Lillian Tram on December 14th, 2011
Miru Kim, a creative artist, is doing an art exhibit at Art Basel Miami called ‘I Like Pigs and Pigs Like Me’ as part of her series, ‘The Pig That Therefore I Am.’ Even though she’s a germaphobe, she undergoes this art performance where she spends over four days…104 consecutive hours to be exact…with pigs, bare naked. She was inspired to do this after reading French philosopher Michel Serres’s book Five Senses: A Philosophy of Mingled Bodies, which explores the characteristics of skin. Kim became intrigued by pigs from pig dissections as a pre-med at Columbia University. She noted that pig eyes are very similar to human eyes, more so than domestic pets like cats and dogs. Kim notes that eye contact with pigs feels both strange and familiar because of this similarity. Live performance in bare skin conveys a sense of touch and closeness that is difficult to express with pictures or film. She will be with the pigs from Wednesday to Saturday, day and night.
Fair warning: There is nudity in these photos. You will see tits and a**.
